In this blog, we will discuss

John Muir, the father of the national parks, once said, “We are now in the mountains, and they are in us, kindling enthusiasm, making every nerve quiver, filling every pore and cell of us.”

I don’t know about you, but the Rustic Interior Design style makes me think of pine trees, snow-capped mountains, wildflowers along a winding trail bringing you to a glorious outcropping overlooking a river valley. A place that makes you want to forget the internet, smartphones, or TVs exist—a place where you want to sit outside next to a fire, looking at the stars.

Ok, maybe that’s just me. I love a good hike. I love fresh air and being in the middle of the woods with nothing more than my husband, my dog, and nature in all its glory.

So the rustic style is definitely one that I am drawn to.

Different Types of Rustic Decor

Rustic can encompass various styles, including anything from Tuscan to Log Cabin, depending on what part of the world you are most drawn to. But you don’t need to live in a Tuscan villa or a log cabin to Enjoy a rustic home. You just need to embrace natural elements as your main decor items.

As I state in my blog, What are design styles, and how to choose yours, I describe Rustic Interior Design style as:

  • Organic elements

  • Natural lines

  • Iron, brass, copper, and pewter

  • Woodgrain

  • Leather

  • Animal hides

  • Fur

  • Antlers

  • Layered throws, pillows, and rugs

  • Exposed beams

  • Stone fireplace or walls

Rustic Decorating Ideas

You can find beautiful, rustic places to stop and relax from coast to coast. Some of the most luxurious resorts in America are decorated in a rustic esthetic. For instance, you can’t go wrong visiting Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, NY, on the east coast. In the Midwest, you will find Big Cedar Lodge in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, or if the west coast is beckoning, then the Vermejo - Ted Turner Ranch in New Mexico will feed your soul. Each of these locations embraces the beauty that surrounds it by embracing organic elements, handcrafted metals, and natural lines.

You probably don’t live in a fantastic lodge in the woods if you’re like me, but you can still enjoy a rustic home. You can create a modest rustic space like this one from wnetrzablog on Instagram. Or go all out like is home from whitebirchloft on Instagram.

Rustic can be subtle or go all out. You decide how much rustic touches you want in your home.

Where to Buy Rustic Decor

You can find rustic decor at a variety of price points. Shops like Arhaus, GrandinRoad, and Terra Villa are higher end and will have a heftier price tag, but as I mentioned in my blog 4 Things to Consider When Making a Purchase and Keep from Buying Poorly Made Products, you should buy the best product you can afford. So if your budget screams at you when you make a purchase, shop around until you find the perfect piece at a price you can afford. Don’t settle just because it’s “Eh, okay,” or you will regret that purchase later.

Viva Terra:

Rustic Decor on a Budget

If you’re looking for rustic decor on a budget, look toward Amazon, Wayfair, or Target. Don’t forget to shop at your local antique shops as well! Check out my blog, How to Find Amazing Decor Items at Antique Shops, for tips on finding antiques.

I suggest even on a budget; you choose one nice piece that anchors the feel of the space. It can be a leather couch or a great coffee table that might cost you a little more, but you add lower-cost accent items to finish the look.

This coffee table is similar to what I showed earlier from Arhaus but $1,000 less.

These three baskets at Amazon would look fabulous in many different design styles and give you a similar look to the ones from GardinRoad for a third of the price.

Although I could not find rustic wood panels except the ones I showed you from Viva Terra, these metal tiles for $101.79 would give you a beautiful rustic feel and bring a nice hard surface to your space for a lot less.

I hope this blog inspired you to decorate your home in a Rustic esthetic! Until next time, have an amazing time being creative with your home decor.
