In this blog we will explore:
Bohemian Decor
Where to Buy Boho
Originating in Paris in the 19th century, the Bohemian style or Boho was inspired by the creative minds of artists, writers, nomads, and performers of the area. They focused on the importance of creativity instead of the need for money.
I’ve always been fascinated by the origins of design. Maybe that’s why my YouTube focuses on the creative processes instead of the “how-to” perspective. The history of the bohemian style is fascinating to me. An article I read, A Bohemian History by The Design Nomad, pointed out that the style has an Indian flare due to the original Bohémien people. Inaccurately, they were identified as migrants from Bohemia when these gypsies, as they were called, came from India.
They went on to explain, “The term Bohemianism first emerged in the early nineteenth century during a time when financially struggling artists, writers, and musicians began to populate the lower-rent, lower class, Romani neighbourhoods of France.
Many artists were frustrated by the confines of the stodgy and small-minded bourgeois middle-class life which focused largely on propriety and conformation.”
Bohemian interior design is still one of the most carefree design styles you can choose for your home. It is the perfect style for those looking to express themselves in a free-spirited, whimsical way.
Bohemian Decor
in my blog, What are Design Styles and How to Choose Yours, I outlined the key elements of bohemian are:
Asymmetrical layout
Casual
Carefree
Bold palettes mixed with neutrals
Contrasting colors
Layers of texture
Distressed, mismatched furniture
Rattan and cane pieces
Mixed patterns
No such thing as too much
Plants
The best bohemian decor embraces maximalism, is colorful, free-spirited, and encourages expressing individualism.
I could go on and on trying to describe boho, but this go-round, I feel it’s best just to show you some examples of bohemian interior design.
These examples are entirely unique and have small touches that I love—for instance, HomeDecorDestiny's butterflies on the ceiling and the vibrant color choices from DecorThyNest.
